My last night at Aquarius for a while…

Writing by Ms. D. Meanor on Wednesday, 21 of January , 2009 at 1:36 pm

Friday night is my last night at Aquarius for a while. They have decided to have a cast, where everyone will take turns hosting, rather than having 3 main hostesses. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to dedicate to a cast, so I won’t be there any time in the near future.

As such, you should come out to see me! :-D I’ll be joined by Daray Lorez, one of the new cast members at Aquarius, as well as Joey Winters, former Miss Ohio America.

I’m sure I’ll pull something out of the bag, since it’s my last time there for a while, so you should come on out! :-D The weather is finally not so horrendously cold, we have a new President to celebrate, and what else do you have to do in Dayton on a Friday? ;-)

And don’t worry… I’ll still be working around here, so there will be other opportunities to see me… but that doesn’t give you an excuse not to come on Friday! hehehe

Siouxsie’s Mantaray; Halloween chaos

Writing by Ms. D. Meanor on Saturday, 20 of October , 2007 at 2:29 pm

So Siouxsie’s new album “Mantaray” was due out, according to the press release, on Sept. 10th. However, I believe that was the European release date, and had been under the impression that it wasn’t due out until Nov. here in the states. Much to my surprise, my best friend Denny actually found the album at Best Buy yesterday! It’s already out!!! And it’s fucking fantastic! HURRAY!!!!

The album has reached my hot little hands just in time for me to have something melodic to listen to while I dig my way through the utter chaos that is the Halloween season. Every year it’s always just a mad dash to the finish line with all the pre-show insanity that occurs. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Hill, long time friend and DJ extraordinaire. Because of Miss Hill, I will ever feel that if I chintz out on the slightest thing for a Halloween show, then it’ll just be a flop. Thank you Hill, for helping create a positive blitzkrieg of my life during this festive season. ;-)

For my friends farther south in Ohio…

Writing by Ms. D. Meanor on Tuesday, 7 of August , 2007 at 11:29 am

I’ll be at Old Street Saloon this coming Fri (Aug 11th) for a good old time. Even if you’re not farther south in Ohio than Dayton, it’s still worth the drive down (it’s in Monroe, which is about half way between Dayton and Cincinnati). It’s a cozy little bar, very homey, and we ALWAYS have a rip-roarin’ drunken old time. ;-) They serve their drinks in BIG jugs down there and they’re still priced the same as any other place. For directions and info, visit Old Street’s website. I’ll be partying with the hostess of the night, Quasi, and my dear friend Alana Reign!

Pride month is (finally) almost over!

Writing by Ms. D. Meanor on Wednesday, 20 of June , 2007 at 12:22 am

The first weekend of this month was Pride in Dayton. It was insanely, hellishly, inside-of-a-dog’s-mouth, blazing hot that Saturday, and I freely admit to not being thrilled at being there. Still, I had my trusty “Tranny Poppins” big black umbrella and my dear sister Alexis with me, so I carried on faithfully.

Dayton Pride

You can tell how hot it was by the fact that my hair, which was pumped up huge before the parade, was two fluffs away from completely flat by the time the 15-minute parade was over. One of my concerns with the Dayton parade (although it’s just one of a mile-long list I have with Pride parades, festivals, etc. in general), is this: everyone that would get anything out of watching the 15-minute, 3-block long parade (i.e. gay people or those who support them) is in the damn parade! Almost everyone that I saw watching the parade was either; someone that worked in a shop along the parade route and came outside to see the train of gayness; someone that was out and about with their business and stopped to see a sudden cavalcade of queerness, or; there to protest the parade (only a handful of nazis for that, but they were there nonetheless).

Fast forward to the weekend after that, Sunday the 10th. Yes your eyes heard you correctly, I said Sunday. I got up at SEVEN THIRTY AM on a Sunday, put on my war paint, and headed to Cincinnati, with my dear sister Montana this time (although I forgot my “Tranny Poppins” umbrella).

Cincinnati Pride

(You will notice that dear sister Montana forgot to put on panties, and I did tell her I’d be ribbing her about it for ages to come.) I will admit that I did have a pretty damn good time. The highlight of the day, however, was after the parade on the way home, when we stopped at Big Boy’s in Loveland and all 14 of us poured out of the limo like troopers coming over the hill to stuff our faces. Still, I have complaints (would I be any less myself if I didn’t?). First and foremost IT WAS SUNDAY! What self-disrespecting, Betty-Ford-card-carrying queen wants to haul themselves out of bed at the crack of dawn for a parade? Not I, rest assured! Call me old-fashioned if you must! Second, the parade was forever long. It was an almost two hour parade, most of which was going through a neighborhood area, where all the straight people came out to sit in lawn chairs with their *shudder* children, to watch us all ooze past. I suppose that’s the one of the points of Pride parades/festivals, being cheered on by the heterosexuals, but still… not but a handful of queers were in sight, as they were all still abed, sleeping off the previous night’s debauch.

(I skipped Pride this past weekend, as the hubby and I were off on a mini-vacation to the super-mega-snobby-land of Connecticut, where everyone is better than you are, just by sheer proximity of living near Martha Stewart, Don Imus and Bill Murray, to visit a friend who lives there (and appears to feel that he fits in said snobsville like I fit into a size 6 pump.))

And finally, this coming weekend. We’re off to Columbus for the grande finale of our Pride tour. This weekend will find all three of us Wyrd Sisters (Alexis, Montana and I) huffing along in the parade and at the Somewhere Else (a Columbus bar) stage of the festival afterward. If you’re back in Dayton after the parade, come and suffer through the sore feet, back and head with me at Masque as I’ll be there doing my duties as the Mayhem Maven. Show time is 10:30 as usual.
